Nuestro compromiso con la salud materna

Our strategic investments address the systemic challenges behind maternal deaths in the U.S. We’re working with grant partners to build community solutions that make postpartum clinical care easier and more accessible, while helping to expand the perinatal workforce.

One of CVS Health Foundation's grantees, Mass General Brigham's Mobile Postpartum Care Unit (MPCU), provides six home visits for six months after birth to patients who deliver at Mass General Hospital or Brigham and Women's Hospital. The clinical care team includes a certified nurse midwife, a community health worker and a social worker, with doula care provided at no cost through MGB's Birth Partners program.

Brigham and Women's Hospital's "My Health Beyond Pregnancy" (MHBP) toolkit is aimed at empowering patients with hypertensive pregnancies by providing a low-cost, scalable resource that includes checklists, educational materials and interactive components for tracking recovery. A randomized control trial is underway to assess the tool's impact on patient knowledge and engagement.

The initiative has garnered national attention, with partnerships formed with the Preeclampsia Foundation and the American College of Cardiology, further enhancing its reach and effectiveness. The tool has been accessed over 4,000 times online, reflecting its growing recognition as a vital educational resource for underserved communities.

A partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) supported the development and roll out of over 40 educational assets focused on postpartum hypertension and the importance of remote blood pressure monitoring. AHA engaged with community and clinical partners in two markets, facilitating outreach to high-risk patients and serving over 400 women and their families at community events.

Our grant support for Women & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island is helping to expand a postpartum hypertension program, providing blood pressure cuffs and training to all eligible patients before discharge to better understand when to seek medical attention, in the comfort of their own homes. In 2024, the program successfully enrolled more than 500 patients.

Doulas are non-clinical caregivers who provide physical, emotional and informational support to parents before, during and after childbirth.

With support from CVS Health Foundation, March of Dimes continues to expand access to doula services. In 2024, the organization supported three local doula collaborative hubs, facilitated collaboration between the doula hubs and the hospital systems where doula clients give birth, and provided financial and social support for individuals pursuing doula practice. Consumer education campaigns focused on the value of doulas have reached nearly 20,000 individuals.

The American Heart Association hosted a pioneering digital symposium focused on the role of doulas in maternal health - fostering valuable discussions and commitments to prioritize maternal health. The implementation of engagement surveys and a feedback loop is set to enhance the user experience and inform future initiatives.
